SEO Tips: How a Normal Person Can Become a Web Expert

Previously we offered clues for using search engine optimization to increase web traffic. You started out by measuring web traffic. Then you used the SEO technique of updating keywords, followed by giving your HTML improvements to catch the eye of search engines. Now it's time to focus on a very real and personal side of your website - you. What can you do personally to enhance the visibility of your site? Not what changes can you make to the site, but rather what can you do outside your site that will greatly influence its appearance to the engines. As you develop your search engine marketing program, you certainly don’t want to be clueless. Here are some more clues to help you.
Clue #1: Build Links From Other Websites
A great way to get literally free advertising and exposure for your website is the search engine optimization technique known as link building. Link building is often done reciprocally. Basically, you place an inbound link to your site on someone else’s by returning the favor. This is an easy way to begin this phase of your search engine marketing. One suggestion: contact sites which are related but not necessarily in direct competition with yours. They will be much more amenable to link sharing if they are not concerned about you taking away business from them. And, you certainly don’t want to send any of your business to them. Sites with tangential relationships are best. For instance, if you sell mufflers you might want to link with sites offering motors, tires, or even cars. But you might think twice before linking with Aamco. The advantage of link building in search engine optimization is that every inbound link to your site becomes a positive in the search engine’s psyche. As it scans the internet seeking to fulfill the request of its user it notices the number of times your site is mentioned. The more occurrences of links to your site the better it feels about giving you high ranking on its results page. So, give it a try. You just might increase web traffic with a minimum outlay of time and effort.
Clue #2: Become a Presence on the Internet
You’re a professional. In your chosen field there isn’t any one better, right? So why not reveal your expertise to internet patrons seeking what you are qualified to offer. Begin with blogs and chat rooms. Do a search of your own and find sites that feature conversations and comments related to your knowledge set. Get involved. Answer questions and post thoughts and ideas. Use keywords related to your site. And always - say it with me - always leave an inbound link to your site. This is a freebie. You don’t have to reciprocate on this one. And you’ll impress the search engines. But wait… If you act right away we’ll double the offer! Here’s how.
You can greatly enhance your internet presence and credibility by getting posted on article directories like ezinearticles.com. Without charge you can share timely, relevant, insightful information within your comfort zone. You can share as many articles as you’ve a mind to. The more the merrier, as long as they are compelling and worth the reader’s time. These article sharing sites, and they are profuse on the net, have literally hundreds of categories for posting articles. Pick one or more relevant to your field and give it a whirl. If you aren’t comfortable writing hire a freelance writer to write in your stead. Getafreelancer.com is an example of many sites that offer the service of ghostwriters at very, very reasonable rates. Whether you write yourself or have it written, remember to use your best keywords in the articles. Also, you can include a short biographical sketch at the end of the article with, guess what, an inbound link to your website included. It’s free. Your writing gives you the credibility of an expert in your field. And you are at liberty to include keywords and links that catch the search engine’s eye. Did I mention no-brainer? Go for it. It’s a win-win situation. You win and your website wins!
