LinkedIN was built to put together relationships that lead to business deals. Starting with just a few initial contacts, seeded (imported) from your email address book, you can unlock a vast network of interrelated and connected people. This becomes the first step in your LinkedIn marketing. The great thing about LinkedIn is these people are here to meet and connect with people just like you, people that are driving for success. Marketing with LinkedIn is a natural part of the social experience.

Selling with LinkedIn becomes obvious as opportunities to connect are routinely suggested by the site, giving lots of small business success ideas and options. Completely fill out your LinkedIn profile and your will be immediately be given suggestions of past classmates, colleagues, even people you might know. LinkedIn is constantly analyzing networks and relationships. This will make your social marketing by helping with the most challenging mystery and art of networking--who and why do I connect?

Opportunity Research


Initiating your social marketing plan and opportunity research is simple and straight-forward. Begin with your profile. This initial 5-10 minutes is going to yield hundreds of connections. Pay particular attention to LinkedIn suggestions for:
• Past college classmates
• Former work colleagues
• People you might know

Each of these people start with a common affinity relationship. You have something in common to start the conversation. Take this initial list and connect with people you had or still have direct relationships with--these are quick easy adds.

Now use the same technique, but go to the advanced search. Explore these same affinity relationships, but now target influential decision makers in appropriate industries, positions, and interest groups. This search will help you find your core opportunities--combining affinity and customer targeting.

Social Marketing


Now that you have a great group of connections it is time to turn on your small business plan marketing plan. Don't sit back and admire how many connections you have, put that list to work marketing. Marketing with LinkedIn and monetizing your connections requires to put your profile in motion.
• Start participating in LinkedIn Answers
• Review daily the list of "People You Might Know"
• Search out other LinkedIn affinity groups to join
• Participate in organizing or connecting LinkedIn Groups
