Does MLM Success Lie Within the Social Marketing Strategy?

By Travis Campbell of MarketingProfessor.com

Social marketing strategies can propel Multi-Level Marketers into online marketing fame with the perfect (sales) pitch. One question still looms regarding MLM and social networks: Does your social marketing plan need to include MLM to reach sales goals?

Hands-Off: MLM and Your Social Marketing Strategy

Social networking sites are susceptible to MLM through social marketing strategies such as wall spam simply because of their sizeable membership numbers. Follow these social marketing tips to curb unwanted MLM:

* Nature of the beast. Social networking is so-called for one simple reason: it is social rather than professional. Social marketing strategies that include multi-level marketing attempts from “friends” should not be a part of your social marketing plan. Most MLM efforts implemented through social marketing strategies are quickly viewed as spam by recipients.
* Proof in the pudding. The full-steam-ahead approach assumed by many multi-level marketers is not based upon experience and familiarity with the products or services they are promoting. Abusing friends with spam via social marketing strategies creates an unwelcome association between the social site and the product, if only from subscriber perception.
* Get your own site. There are ample sites for product promotion without hijacking the social networking sites through unsavory social marketing strategies like wall spam. The result of MLM product promotion through social marketing plans employing schemes, scams, or spam is a lingering aftertaste for the product.

Social marketing plans should try to avoid the transferring of negative perceptions regarding multi-level marketing through social marketing strategies. There are too many products and services vying for online audiences for social marketing sites to be able to screen them all.

Pick and Choose: Screening MLM through Your Social Marketing Strategy

Before taking the plunge into multi-level marketing, there first must be a reason for the MLM approach to making money. A viable social marketing plan is a preference for many marketers for a variety of reasons:

* Demographics. Because of the nature of the social marketing plan, the availability of potential customers goes far beyond that of acquaintances, coworkers, and family members. With a carefully orchestrated social marketing strategy, the audience can actually come to the marketer at no cost to either.
* Reach. Without traveling, campaigning, and hitting the streets, MLM professionals have access to the largest possible audience simply through their social marketing strategies. Establishment of a product site, submission of product-promoting articles, and even paid advertisements are all tactics that satisfy your social marketing plan without infringing upon the social space of others.
* Expense. By drafting a social marketing strategy that takes advantage of user-friendly technological applications, MLM-ers can avoid the costs of printing and advertising normally incurred through traditional marketing.

The audience is available for multi-level marketers if the social marketing strategy is well thought-out and genuine. By seeing the online audience as a collection of potential customers rather than unsuspecting victims of get-rich-quick schemes, your social marketing plan will be welcomed and respected in appropriate online communities.

Multi-level marketing can become major component of social marketing strategies. However, social networking sites are not willing to compromise their own reputations for the profit of hungry marketers seeking to saturate the social formats in lieu of hard work and valid social marketing strategies.
